The literary production is an essential part on the construction of people’s identity, history and memory. It is also a powerful instrument which acts throughout life, instilling principles, values, guiding ways of seeing and understanding the world. This way one can consider the impact of the intense contact with characters, questions and solutions presented by the stories one hears, since childhood, in representations and identifications we seek in life.
A literary production which omits or erases specific presences or that builds stereotypes to define what is beautiful, desirable, right or wrong, unfortunately contribute to building prejudice. On the other hand, literature can be an essential element of the process of deconstructing prejudice itself.
